I approach each project with three underlying principles: that well-designed space can be transformative, that nature is restorative, and that each garden has the potential to positively connect to larger ecological systems. My goal is to create dynamic, well-crafted, and sustainable landscapes for living that thoughtfully respond to client needs and site context.

I am a licensed landscape architect and established my studio in 2008. I provide comprehensive landscape architectural services and am focused on residential landscape architecture and garden design.

My childhood was imbued with a deep awareness and experience of natural and planned landscapes. I grew up on the San Francisco Bay, and spent summers and vacations exploring family farms in southern Oregon and the central valley of California, the redwood forests on the northern California coast and the High Sierra. I come from a family with a history of cultivation, design and stewardship of the land that includes farmers, landscape architects, planners, environmentalists, gardeners, nurserymen, and good old fashioned back-to-the-landers. I’ve had the pleasure and satisfaction of working with talented and knowledgeable designers, gardeners and horticulturalists, contractors and craftspeople. I hike, garden, travel, study and photograph as often as I can as a way to explore landscapes of all types, natural and built.

Prior to establishing my studio, I worked for Richard Haag in Seattle, Lutsko Associates in San Francisco, and Henning/Anderson in Oakland, CA. I have worked on numerous residential properties and estates, as well as institutional and commercial projects. I hold a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from the University of Santa Barbara, California. I am a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), and a Master Gardener through Oregon State University.

A few testimonials from clients and contractors…

“From the earliest conception stage to the final plantings (and even maintenance recommendations) Rose handled our project with skillful execution and timely communication. She incorporated many unique touches in her design for our front garden that built on and enhanced our own style, while adding functionality and beauty to this very visible space. She expertly helped us navigate communication with the contractors through every stage of the process to ensure a final product that made our vision a beautiful reality.” -Rebecca, client

“We really appreciated Rose’s concept of moving beyond the initial design and planting to more of a life cycle approach that takes into account the ongoing maintenance and cultivation of our new landscape.  She has done the groundwork to find service providers with whom we all can collaborate towards an ongoing vision of the initial design concept.  That is really helpful-rather than design, plant, and move on.” -Charlie, client

“Rose is great to work with. Extremely thorough, well organized, and also works well as part of a team. I appreciate the fact that she really values my opinion when working through a job issue.” -Mike, contractor

“I had the pleasure of working with Rose as she produced a schematic landscape design for a complex project on the site of our historic family farm. Rose is highly skilled as a project manager, is very personable and is a great communicator. Her ability to interact with land use consultants and government agencies combined with knowledge of laws and codes as they pertained to the property produced a successful site plan.”-Carole, client

“Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful work in my backyard! You made every step in the process fun and easy for me. I could not imagine a more perfect result, and we will be enjoying it for years to come.”-Lora, client
